J’Accuse of October 4, 2024 Italy and the new Hitlers: genocides in the silence of our consciences

Italy is, to say the least, a bizarre and inconsistent country. Do we, as Italians, know why? And it is a country of corporations where the interests of professional categories are an insult to the principle of equal rights of citizens. From taxis, to the occupation of beaches, still unresolved issues, from pharmacies to the castes of public administrations, from public companies to clientelist hiring...etc. The list is long and it is indecent to talk about it. Our history is full of contradictions and lessons. Every time we take sides in wars, we do it for convenience and often the conceived conveniences later reveal themselves to be illusions full of bitterness and servitude, as happened in the first and second world wars. Our neighbors know us well, just as we know them. Everyone has their own identity and their own national egoisms. But ultimately, if we are a country that has enjoyed a certain economic well-being for decades, it is thanks to the people who work, the workers, the serious and honest entrepreneurs, the creative and brilliant artists who have restored esteem and respect to our country throughout the world. What often horrifies us, however, are its mediocre and hypocritical leaders, precisely those we voted for, capable with a minimum of electoral consensus, as has happened for a few decades, thanks to unrepresentative electoral systems, of conquering the seats of power and making havoc of what remains of beauty in the country.

We still see it clearly in this difficult and serious economic and political context. Government incompetence and defeats are portrayed as a conquest and a success by a political journalism aligned and subservient to political power, the increase in precarious employment is qualified as an increase in the same, the tightening of security laws is interpreted as a necessity, when it constitutes a failure of democracy and of the confrontation with the opposition in the perspective of the restoration of political and police repression towards those who dissent and do not share the political line of the right-wing government; we also see it in the choices in economic, fiscal and industrial policy where the planning does not aim to solve the country's problems but only to make propaganda and protect the electoral basins of reference as in the case of the choice not to tighten the repression against tax evasion, largely generated by the world of self-employment. The contradictions are many also in foreign policy where we witness two genocides in which our government has openly sided with the aggressors. Gaza first, following October 7th and now the invasion and the hammering of Lebanon. We are incapable of saying independently and authoritatively what our foreign policy should be. If Mamma RAI and Giorgia herself make daily propaganda for the Israelis, how do you want this country to be esteemed and to have self-esteem for what it does? We bow to our American masters, as she did, because we lack the ideals and authority that characterizes a country in times of difficulty. We only know how to insult the French and the English because of an inferiority complex that haunts us for our mistakes and the very intrinsic nature of what we are. In truth, we cannot be different from what we are. However, we have worsened and in the face of conflicts, as mentioned above. Our democratic identity has weakened in a context where the rise of a character like Vannacci says a lot about the cultural and political climate that is creeping into the country. The general has his own political project not dissimilar to that of Hitler and his Mein Kampf, when he speaks of US and THEM. Woe! To what extent have the new Hitlers degenerated Western democracies, starting with Netanyahu? Israel's attacks against Lebanon, the incessant bombing of the civilian neighborhoods of Beirut remind us of Hitler's invasion and bombing of Warsaw. The silence of the pure and democratic Westerners in the face of these carnage is an immense shame that will forever stain European and Western history. I would not even fail to tell you about the silence and inertia of the Arab states because it is useless anyway! They are dictatorships that work with the stick and the carrot at the service of the aforementioned chancelleries. They just follow them. Dissent is not allowed in those parts and therefore it is a closed question but it is a deep wound to the soul of those nations incapable of rebelling because they are kept in a condition of minority both by their dictators and by those outside who legitimize them and the case of General Sisi's Egypt is glaring. In short, the new Hitlers of our cruel and barbaric era need charlatans and liars, or rather a servile journalism that lies and narcotizes minds. But the responsibility is always ours if we fail to stop wars and injustices. I am horrified by what the French philosopher and journalist of Jewish origin Bernard-Henri Lévy said on Piazza Pulita, a program hosted by Corrado Formigli: the blame for the thousands of killings of Palestinian children, women and civilians falls on Hamas and not on the Israeli army, as if the destruction of an entire city with its civilian population is nothing compared to the pursuit of the fight against Hamas. This character is truly repugnant, and his macabre vision seems to surpass even the theorists of the Holocaust. The lack of modesty and common sense has allowed this decline in values and the very respect that we must have for human life. Netanyahu’s messianic speech at the United Nations seems to be the fruit of this era lacking in truth and dignity. It is the ogres, blood suckers who have taken on the mission of safeguarding humanity, giving themselves the right to alter and demolish other nations. His own speech to the Iranian people, a few days earlier, says a lot about the moral and human degradation in which we live. We all understood that this is madness, a Mein Kampf in reverse where the Israelis would dictate the law and their new order in the Middle East and the world, in the general silence of all nations.
