J'Accuse of April 4 on Trumpian customs measures. A fair measure but destructive for America and the Western liberal system itself

America's crisis cannot be solved with customs measures, but through a new liberal revolution that dictates new rules and a new financial system based on solidarity and the real economy.

The increase in customs duties comes as a cold shower for the economies of half the world. It is a tough decision but it had to be taken to restore power and vitality to the American economy, after decades of concessions and servitude and aid to countries of half the world but in particular to that part of European allies seen by the new Trump administration as the cause of American decline due to the concessions and concessions granted to it by the American economic system with the approval of past White House administrations, all guilty of not having defended American interests, local producers and even American workers who voted for Trump and who today expect from the new customs measures an economic recovery and a return to prosperity and to that promised golden age that the Tycoon speaks of in his sermons to the crowds of the country. Yet what we are witnessing is a devastation of the international financial system and an upheaval of the commercial and economic balances achieved so far and which must be repeated according to the words of the President: "they are the cause of the impoverishment of the country at the expense of the economies of allied and non-allied countries. At 10:30 PM on April 2, the Tycoon in his historic speech on the White House lawn uses unprecedented words. He speaks of Liberation Day, as if America were subjected to the servitude and chains of a system that granted to others what is due to the people, now more than ever eager to take back their market in the hands of companies and multinationals from countries that have enriched themselves on the backs of the poor people of local producers, always abandoned and considered rotten by past administrations. Trump thunders with a tone that is sometimes sarcastic and sometimes euphoric: "I will relaunch the American dream that no one talks about anymore, generating billions and billions of dollars that will reduce our taxes and pay off our debt. We will go straight on its way despite the markets of half the world gone crazy.

In this way, the plan for the new Trumpian customs measures aims to heal, as we have said, "unfair trade practices"; reduce the trade deficit, the true Achilles heel of the national economy; have tax revenues of 6 thousand billion dollars in 10 years, the largest for the United States since the end of the Second World War. It is an offensive that is accompanied by the 25% duties on cars and overlaps with the tariffs already imposed on Mexico, Canada and above all China. Ultimately, the ultimate goal of the White House is to overturn the balance produced by Beijing's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), which occurred in 2001, to replace the globalization that began then with a contemporary version of mercantilism based on the planetary challenge between the USA and China in order to gain leadership in manufacturing and energy production.

For better or worse, the customs measures represent a fiscal and political revolution whose internal and international implications were unthinkable until a few days ago and will have a great impact on the economy, finance and international trade. The crises that will be triggered by these customs measures will lead to the closure of thousands of businesses, movements of capital towards safer countries, massive unemployment that will cause social and political tensions in the most democratic countries of the West, further aggravating social and class conflicts and leading to the strengthening of those xenophobic and racist parties that are growing today in all European countries. Finally, if we consider the European rearmament plan and the still unresolved war in Ukraine, we are faced, in the current context of customs and trade wars, with a powder keg from which new tensions and probable regional and international conflicts will arise. In conclusion, America with the duties passed thinks to take back its market with the avalanches of billions that will be generated by this decision, but in doing so it has broken a balance that could also make it fall into a deadly crisis. What would have been the alternative then? I believe that the fiscal lever used was the last cannon shot to this America that does not want to sink before seeing others sink. Although its arguments are right, the method for recovery is wrong. The crisis does not concern the American economy but the financial, economic and commercial system that needs a deep fair trade reform. In the end I believe that we will have to think about sharing the wealth and the damage that it generates. Only a system based on a fair trade vision and respectful of the parties (countries) could relaunch the world economy, since competition has only created more imbalances and injustices in the distribution of wealth.
